Michael J. Cumbo, Ph.D., founded Sandia Electro-Optics Corporation (SE-OC) in January, 2013. Dr. Cumbo has over 30 years of business management and technology leadership experience in the Optics and Photonics industry.
Prior to founding SE-OC, Dr. Cumbo was the President of IDEX Optics & Photonics (IOP). Through consistent dedication to first pass yield, cycle time improvement, and superior customer service, Dr. Cumbo’s team grew IOP’s revenue from $20M to $200M in less than four years. At the end of his tenure with IDEX, IOP was comprised of six widely recognized technology businesses: ATFilms, CVI Laser Optics, Melles Griot Lasers, Melles Griot Optical Systems, Precision Photonics Corporation and Semrock.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Cumbo held executive positions at three venture capital funded high-tech startup companies: NanoGram Solar, Raydiance, and BinOptics, and at three publicly traded optical product companies: Coherent, JDS Uniphase, and OCLI.
Dr. Cumbo earned a B.S. in physics, an M.S. in optical engineering and a Ph.D. in optics from the University of Rochester, and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.
